WINDER — Anderson Mathias’ record-breaking performance led the Gwinnett performances in Saturday’s Apalachee Invitational cross country meet.

The Hebron Christian senior won the boys individual championship in a 5K time of 15 minutes, 37.64 seconds, a personal best, school record and course record. He just held off Dacula’s Austin Jugenheimer, who was second individually in 15:39.23.

Javier Silva was fifth in 16:32.33 and Wilson Mathias took 20th in 17:25.44 for the Hebron boys, who placed second in the team standings with 104 points, trailing only Jackson County’s 95. Buford’s boys were sixth at 150 behind Jose Mayorga (18th, 17:24.79).

Hebron’s Eloise Jones was the top girls finisher in seventh place at 20:28.91, helping her team to seventh at 204. The Buford girls finished second with 98, well behind champion Milton’s 36.

Archer’s Caroline Kutter was eighth (20:34.19) and Buford’s Jasmine Jones was ninth (20:41.67) in the girls 5K race. Buford also put Olivia Park (16th, 21:45.09) and Alexis Tudor (17th, 21:47.26) in the top 20, and Lanier got a top finish ... Click here to read full article
